The Rampage core doesn't look like proper 4:3 on a HDMI output to me...It looks like it's not wide enough. Maybe looks 1:1..?
Has anyone else noticed this or am I suffering from gadget hyperchondria? It's fine using the analog output on a CRT.

for me on analog to scart it looks normal on a CRT. Over HDMI it is squared, but that might be because Rampage was a 25khz game if I remember correctly. So you have to adjust your CRT if possible. Or just use the fullscreen setting.
Sure, because you adjust your arcade monitor to stretch the picture to the edges and center it. The original resolution of Rampage is 512x480@30 Hz, CRT 31kHz. But with the fullscreen option in the menu it shouldn't be a problem.

Full screen would stretch it to 16:9 on most HDMI displays, so it would be nice if the default aspect ratio on HDMI was 4:3.

Then that seems to be dependent on what is connected. On my 4:3 VGA Monitor connected to HDMI it stretches to 4:3. Well probably it stretches to "Full Screen" Isn't there also an "keep aspect ratio" setting?
