Astounding work, almost spat my tea all over the monitor when I saw it on Twitter/Patreon earlier this morning.

I'm skeptical if it can happen, but if it can good god I'm excited for it!

For those of us blocking twitter, and since nobody’s mentioning it for some reason:
Fpgazumspass is working on a Nintendo 64 core for the Mister.
Re: Well Nobody Saw This Coming! Nintendo 64 Core Announced
he's been saying "It's a low level emulator i write to learn about the system, so i can implement it for the FPGA. But it will be completly different code."
we're still in such an early stage that the FPGA isn't yet attempting to run it at all, , if not on the DE10 it could run on a larger FPGA though maybe?

We'll see in due time i guess?

The Patreon post is rather detailed and from what he writes there he is pretty optimistic that it will work. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the size of the FPGA and the speed of the CPU seems to be doable as well.

No no no, this is absolutely impossible on the MiSTer, some user called 'FPGAzumSpass' explained why in detail yesterday.

He did not say impossible:

It's very unlikely that such a CPU can work in the DE10-Nano, at least 100% accurate with timing closure.
...
Again, no 100% accuracy here, due to the nature of the DDR3 being shared with the ARM and scaler making it somewhat random, but close enough to make games work i guess.
...
Overall space could also be an issue.
...
Building such a system with about 3 times higher clock speed and wider datapath (more logic) is not easy.

So does that mean that Killer Instinct Arcade also has a chance?

Well now we know why he was reluctant to announce what he was working on when he first started.

Re: Well Nobody Saw This Coming! Nintendo 64 Core Announced
Very exciting! N64 is one of my favorite consoles. This is a bit bitter sweet for me though because I bought an N64 a year or two ago thinking it would never come to the MiSTer. It will be interesting to compare the core to the real hardware and hopefully it will end up even better in some ways. Also, it will be very cool to be able to use other controllers with it. I would love to use my Star Wars Arcade controller with it for games like Rogue Squadron. I wonder if the expansion pak will be supported. This enhanced Rogue Squadron and other games. Also having rumble support with DualShock controllers would be great. I will be watching this core development with great interest (Palpatine reference)!

Same for me and add buying an EverDrive 64 during the chip shortage to that
That being said, I'm not selling anything until we get working core
Also, good thing I purchased those Tribute 64 wireless controllers that come both with an N64 and a USB dongle
Yeah, but when you have DK64, Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark all requiring the Expansion Pak, it's hard to say that it's not essential.

Re: Well Nobody Saw This Coming! Nintendo 64 Core Announced
One of the reasons I decided to invest in a MiSTer was because I thought it would easy to bring over to other peoples houses for multiplayer. While it is, none of my irl friends are into games below the n64 generation. They are however interested in N64.
The N64 had amazing multiplayer games, so being able to play them on a tv over MiSTer woudl be a dream come true!

for n64 on wii, not all games are compatible with that emulator right?

Re: Well Nobody Saw This Coming! Nintendo 64 Core Announced
On Wii, every game was sold individual and came with its own custom tailored version of nintendo's n64 emulator.
These emulators, though good, had glaring inaccuracies and nintendos N64 emulation has only gotten worse over time. For that reason, I'm very excited for N64 over FPGA
