MT-32 Pi Setup Questions

Unread post by Louvas »

I'm very new to the MiSTer universe and currently going for the first build. So, I'm sorry if those questions were answered before or are stupid but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I love old computer games so the MT-32 is a must for me but I would also like to have the best possible audio quality out of the entire system. I was thinking to attach a DAC Hat like these between a Pi 3 A+ and one Addons MT-32 Hat. Questions:

1) Would this MT-32 DAC also take over the DE-10 Nano one or not?
1.1) If not, is there a way to make this DAC work for the entire system and every single sample that comes out of the MiSTer? 8-)
1.2) If not, would this DAC only work with MT-32 compatible cores / games?
1.3) If not, any other solution to improve the overall audio quality of the DE-10 Nano besides having to build your system around an Ironclad Plus with a Hi-Fi Blaster Module?
2) How would be the connection between this sandwich PI:DAC:MT-32 to the MiSTer besides the usual USB cable? Anything else I should be aware?

Thanks! ;)

I ended up getting this DAC:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L6 ... UTF8&psc=1

Paired it with these cables:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T8 ... =UTF8&th=1
https://www.amazon.com/FosPower-Stereo- ... to_dp&th=1

The Analog I/O Board supports optical audio as well through the 3.5mm jack.

I also power it through the power only ports located on the back of the MiSTer Hub.

This helped with sound and allowed me to hook it up to powered speakers.

Hope this helps you out with some with options:)

Unlike a real MT-32, you can use digital audio with MT-32 Pi, so if you already have a receiver you can use the MiSTer's HDMI or optical out. I have an Onkyo with Burr-Brown DACs, probably overkill for retro video games but I don't really feel like looking something else.
