Mine arrived earlier this morning. Only tried it with Neo Geo and Amiga. My initial impressions are it is very good but not necessarily great. Bear in mind I never owned a Neo Geo so I have no previous experience with this controller. I find it a little small for my hands. For me it could have done with being a little chunkier but I may get used to it. I really like the thumbstick and face buttons other than I would have preferred more texture on the thumbstick. It's just a little slippery for my liking. Again, something I may get used to. Overall it is solidly built and looks good.

My second one from China arrived last Saturday, I didn't have to pay any duty.

There are multiple review videos now and they are very positive. Apparently it is really close to the original controller.

mine arrived.
it's excellent.10/10

I never owned or used the original NEOGEO CD Pad,the clicky thumbstick is definitely unique.
it's like a mini arcade stick under the thumb stick.
feels great and very precise.

I play fighting games casually ,going through the NEOGEO library on Mister,I can do much better with this pad.can perform moves and combos easily and progress through games much easier than with any other pad.

highly recommended.for NEOGEO games.

It has the same lame deadzone as the mini pad right ? It's not stiff and immediately clicky like the first model I heard ?

Feels like an analogue engaging a microswitch from what I could see

madlittlepixel has his video for it now, for anyone interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZeLiei-8ns
Don't read too much into the title of the video - The part he's a little unhappy about is it not working with things it's not (yet) officially compatible with, one of those being the Analog Pocket dock, which might be relevant for some here.

madlittlepixel is the last guy you should be looking to for reviews. go watch his SN30 review where he disassembles and weighs the controller and declares it the best snes controller because it weighs the same as a real snes controller. not once does he test it out on a single game. anyone who owns that controller and has tried to play contra or a puzzle game knows its dogshit due to a dpad with too shallow of a pivot that registers unintentional diagonals like crazy.

I am seeing the same result I've seen with every 8bitdo product: paid reviewers/influencers and people who've never held the original controller it's based on think it's great.

Why should it? It is the same as the OG NeoGeo CD Controller. Nothing to do with the Mini ones.

Maybe I didn't express correctly, this 8bitdo has too much travel before the clicks similar to the mini garbage

Big no for me ;)

but that's how it is supposed to be. if you don't want that just get a regular controller with a good d-pad like the 8bitdo M30.
These are for fans of the OG NGCD pad that was fucked with the mini version. it's a 1:1.

No it's not, it has deadzone travel before the click like the mini and unlike the original cd pad

In fact I am just reading from the other guy "For arcade shooters, the engage is slightly large", it has always been the case but the og was much tighter

PS I have the og I had the mini and a modded mini

According to this reviewer, the thumb stick is spot-on, compared to the original:

That guy was me and I don't have an original Neo Geo CD controller to compare it with (my favorite joystick is a Suzo 'The Arcade', its engage is as small as it gets). I've played a number of arcade shooters with it now and it is working fine for that.

I just had a look at this and you are right. I can only compare it to my ArcadeR joystick as the only other controller I have with microswitches. But compared to that you do have to move the stick considerably further until you hear a click. I don't know if that is a big deal or what the consequences of that are but there is a difference.

Of course it's about personal preferences and feel, not saying this is garbage at all ;)

It has never been a pad for smu by the way, not even the original one.

Porkchop has some latency numbers...

Bluetooth: 9.871
Wireless: 4.519
Wired: 6.15 (!!!!)

Weird that wired is so laggy, but at least those numbers look pretty good for wireless.

KInd of wonder how this is for platformers? Leaving aside system nostalgia, are there games you would prefer d-pad over this stick for?

Anything that needs fast and precise 360 degree controls, like sport games, could benefit i would imagine. I still use Joysticks for Amiga games like Speedball 2 oder Sensible World of Soccer. I'll get the pad in a few days and will test it via MiSTer.

6ms is still extremely good, I wouldn't worry about that. Beats most controllers, the headline news here is how fast the wireless is, among the top 3 wireless controllers ever, without requiring things like the wireless DE9 adapter etc.

Its 1/3rd of a frame, I'm worried. :? I prefer 2ms tops...

but yes it is a very nice wireless USB controller.

Conversely, I got an M30 a week or two back, and am finding the d-pad absolutely dreadful. Far too mushy for my liking :D I much prefer the SN30 d-pad, but then I'm a child of the SNES.

there are genuine reviews from enthusiast people who have the original pad to compare and say it's as good as the original.

I hope these come to Amazon UK, they do look good.
I also have the real thing, and to me, it was one of the more unique controllers of its time.

nice,I ordered from aliexpress (£33.29) and took 20 days to arrive.
I may pick another one up (as spare) if amazon UK starts selling them.
it's a niche product, who knows how long 8bitdo plans to manufacture them.
I don't want to play the NEOGEO core with anything else now.

For me, it is an excellent space saving alternative to getting an arcade stick. As I get more used to it I am finding myself using it with Amiga and other cores rather than swapping over to my ArcadeR joystick. When Amazon UK get it in stock I think I may pick up a spare too.

Interesting, so up=jump platformers work pretty well? That's one of the big downsides of a d-pad like the m30 (though often I bind a face button to up...)
