Unico ULM26 26" 4:3 LCD

Unread post by callanabrown »

Hello all,

Didn't see this discussed yet. There is a 26" LCD being produced for $299 claiming wide resolution capability from 240p up to 1200p in 4:3.

https://www.unico-usa.com/products/ulm2 ... d-monitors

Some people received them and are having trouble getting it to work at 1200p in Windows.

Some claim they can get 1200p from MiSTer but think the panel might be downscaling to a lesser resolution.

Does anyone have one of these and can load up calibration images to see what the actual resolution of the panel is?

The company is dodging questions, and based on the awful image of Bust A Move they posted to Facebook with the blue color blown out, I think the US team is not experienced with arcade games at all.

This might give you some more information, I agree the company producing these seem vague and non commital when trying to get specs about the panel, the youtube below shows a teardown with more details.

I saw that video, but then I saw the comments basically saying he's focused on the wrong thing (Tcon board). All someone needs to do is magnify and measure an RGB pixel or load up a calibration image to answer this, before people spend $300 on something they think they can apply CRT mask filters on.

I asked that guy on twitter and he did not answer me.

I saw the twitter posts by Midgeek crisis and at first he was running the TMNT core and said it looked awesome, then he discovered that maybe the screen did not have the specified resolution and I guess now it doesn't look awesome, who knows.

Some info from Twitter by a user:

Andrew Liu:
Given how large the individual pixels are, I'm reasonably certain that the native resolution of the panel is 960p as claimed in the manual. You can measure that 2 pixels is very roughly 1mm in width, which would be very close to the physical width of the monitor (.5mm X 960 pixels = 19 in vs. the actual panel at roughly 20.5 in). Another oddity I noticed is that the panel is rotated, and the RGB stripe goes from top to bottom instead of left to right. Because of this, it will be difficult for Windows to look good, especially for text. See the attached reference photo for pixel size and orientation.

There are several overlapping interests here. This monitor is great to have for a drop in arcade replacement. So it is not all bad.

But they would have been better served giving the native panel resolution rather than what resolutions it can accept. That lack of transparency sours customers.

Has anyone measured yet what the latency is on these panels?

They are calling it 1024x768 and Todd Gill has measured the lag at 12ms.

They promised 1600x1200 and 2ms! Unico is calling it a "typo".
