Analog Audio gets louder and quieter

Unread post by xadox »

I am using the Mister with an an analog I/O board.
A normal PC speaker with its own power supply is connected to this via a jack.
I now have the problem that the sound output always fluctuates slightly, regardless of Core.
It is constantly getting louder and quieter. Not extreme but still audible.

Do you have any tips for me as to the reason for this?

Have you tested the PC speaker with a different source?

Does the PC speaker have an old school knob for controlling the volume, and have you tried exercising it vigorously?

Have you tried exercising the mini-jack/socket or use some contact spray (on the I/O board)?

If it only happens with the MiSTer as source, and it's not a socket issue on the board, it sounds like it's something related to the audio DAC on the I/O board.

Thx for your feedback.

The speakers are working fine on other devices. So I think there is a problem with the DAC on the I/O Board.
All of the addons are Aliexpress ones so there is the possibility that there a probs. I will therefore probably replace the I/O board.

Is the Multisystem still up to date or are there other alternatives?

What happens if you twist the mini-jack around in the socket or pull it out and push it back in? Different cable? I'd make very sure it wasn't a connection or cable issue first.

The speakers are working perfect with the same cable on mobile phone or pc for example.

Yes, but that doesn't tell you anything about the socket on your I/O board. Just to rule that out before replacing the I/O board or DAC.

After I re-soldered the contacts on the I/O board, it works perfectly.
