Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (v1.0)[Meduza Team]

Unread post by MrsBison »

Hi there,

i tried this version... Looks good but i do have some weird audio issues...
SFX are perfect but music is shifted to the left. If i balance it it sounds
more weird....
The removed th option to select between stereo and mono

Any ideas / help other files ?

Kind regards

Can this anyone confirm please ?
If yes i will create a ticket.

Note: I dont have any other sound issues like that. Neither on other Saturn games nor on any other systems.

Kind regards

MrsBison - so as not to derail the other topic on the Saturn, I am replying to you again here. I am not having the sound issues (I don't think) you've described. My MiSTer was purchased in January of 2022 as a complete kit from MiSTerAddons.com, and I believe that means I have SDRAM revision 2.9. I have an aluminum case on my MiSTer, so I can't see the PCB to check my SDRAM revision. If your MiSTer is newer than that, I wouldn't guess that you have an old revision of SDRAM. They don't ever remain in stock long, so I doubt it was assembled with really old parts.

It might be worth testing a different copy of the game just to rule that out. I find that people who have a Romance with CDs have a good copy.

My patched bin/cue files have the following MD5 checksums:

Track 1.bin - 23ad80c711d9b645218b4b1da5ca3201
Track 2.bin - e0dae9ae87a303740244a096fe892897
Cue file - 293e598435f80c69ffc10beb9c051c76

djsquare - I have no problems pulling up the map by holding Up and pressing Start.

No issues pulling up the map and no audio issues. My bin/cue files match your md5sums. Complete mister build from ultimatemister.com w/ digital i/o board and 2 x 128 SDRAM (2.9).

saturn core 23.10.18 and mister build 240110 (this may be an unstable build), OS v231108

Audio is run through the optical toslink on the digital i/o board.

@PistolsAtDawn

Thank you so much for taking care about my problem !!!

I bought the Mister Full Kit in germany last year but the system was on stock for months...
This morning i opened the Mister to locate the SD Ram cartridge. Its the blue one.
At Ultimate Mister FPGA i can see that the current SD Ram cartridge is purple so i think i should buy
this new one and try it out ?

How about that ?

Kind regards

The color of PCB has nothing to do with board versions. Different vendors make boards out of different materials. For example, https://MiSTerFPGA.co.uk uses black PCBs for all their products.

SDRAM board has a copyright notice on it, the board revision is also listed there. If your board is v2.9 or newer, it should be fine for the Saturn core.

You're welcome! Before you spend money (which I doubt is necessary), I would at the very least find the checksum values of your game files to see if they are different from the ones I listed. That's the easiest, fastest and cheapest way to determine if it could be a slight difference in the files responsible for your issue.

If you are not sure how to do that, I will be happy to help. It's simple to do.

It's also just about as fast to acquire another copy of the game. I cannot directly link you to my known-good copy due to forum rules, but I strongly hinted at where you can find it in my last message.

I am away from home right now, but I saw this website linked to a similar discussion on this forum by the user "held".

https://raylin.wordpress.com/downloads/ ... m-utility/

The above site shows you how to check the checksum (also called the hash) of your files on a Windows computer using a free program (the download link for the program is listed in the article).

I believe that you can also do this from the terminal / command line directly on the MiSTer, but it will probably be easier for you to check from a graphical environment especially if you do not have experience using a Linux operating system.

If you are unable to use the above website's instructions, then I can try to provide more specific instructions when I return home later today.

But lets see :)

Update

Track 1 bin 23AD80C711D9B645218B4B1DA5CA3201
Track 2 bin E0DAE9AE87A303740244A096FE892897
Track 3 cue 293E598435F80C69FFC10BEB9C051C76

Hmm. Well... I will not claim to be an audio expert. Perhaps you are hearing something that I cannot!

How does the PlayStation version of this game compare?

By the way, I have been listening to the soundtrack all day at work because I love this game! :D

Hi....

it is 100% the way i say. Even my girlfriend notice that the music just comming out of the left channel.
The Playstation Version also runs perfect and all other Satrun games too. Today i will connect my Mister to
my Homecinema System. Maybe this issue is related to the HDMI Audio extractor which where super strange...
Does the Saturn use other Audio signals and frequencies than other systems ?

I own the orignal game and the original OST since release. Even my mother who really loves classic music the old way
couldnt belevee that this great music was made just for a video game.... Maybe one of the best game ever made.

Last test failed....

I tried it in my Homcinema ... same issue
I tried it also with a stereo to mono 3.5 jack adapter ... same issue

And also the sound at the first cut scene inside the castle where the skelett appears the sound is weird....

So no more Castelvania for me except on PSX...

Every single game.... and there are thounds off.... works....normal .....
We checked everything here...including the checksum

Real Hardware no problem ... from first day on ...
In this case ( on Mister ) noting make sense.

1.) Any game from any system works fine.

So what casues this failure ?

  • Hardware ? No ! Why ? See 1.)
  • Core ? No ! Why ! See 1.)
  • HDMI Audio Splitter ? No 1 Why ? See 1.) plus same issue on my very expensive Hometheater - receiver
  • The Game itself ? No ! Why ? See 1.) plus original untranslated version of the game do have the same audio issue

So maybe this game is cursed cause i slapped the bosses with my double crissaegrim on the PSX too hard :D

Thanx for all the ideas and help. Im gonna close this cause ill play the game on its original verison on my PS and im happy with that.
Maybe in the future there will be a soloution...

Cheers

It is possible the mod itself uses areas of the console that aren't typically used. So, you won't run across said issues with other titles. This is the problem with mods/hacks. I'm glad we can limit it down to pretty much the core/mod itself. Sorry I don't have much else to say...but these things happen and its not a bad thing to reach out for solutions. This might get worked out in a future update.

I totally agree if everybody who plays this game on mister do have the same issue.
I dont have a problem ( example ) with games on the N64 which dont run perfect cause
the core is still work in progress and gets better every day.... that is a regular process....

But i have a big problem with an issue nobody can confirm and i i tried everything to
solve the problem. Thats the point.
