How Do I Edit My MiSTer.ini File?

Unread post by drunkie »

Bare with me guys I'm new to this and im trying to hook up my MisTerCade to my PVM through RGBH input (VGA to RGHV cable)
Now what I understood is that I need to change the "composite_sync" in the MisTer.ini from 0 to 1 and I should be good to go.
What I also understood is that the ini file is located on the root of the SD. I tried to open it with both Notepad and Notepad++ and what I get is gibberish!

I've tried to copy whats on the Mister_example.ini (which is identical to https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_Mi ... MiSTer.ini) to the Mister.ini but didn't get a picture from the Mistercade (neither from HDMI or the VGA port). When i revert back to the original (gibberish) Mister.ini the picture works fine through HDMI.

How do i fix this? am I missing a step?

What i ultimately want to achieve is to play on my PVM

You can edit the INI file in multiple ways, here are some of them explained step-by-step:
https://misterreplay.com/mister-fpga-gu ... #chapter18

As mentioned in section I.4 make sure you've got the right INI selected.

Section III shows you how to remote edit the INI, which can be an easy way of checking for typos or at least syntax errors.

How to remote transfer files, including the latest official INI file, to your MiSTer:
https://misterreplay.com/mister-fpga-gu ... #chapter15

If you can't even get a picture via HDMI make sure the INI file uses the correct, matching video mode to your HDMI screen. This is covered here, as well as other important INI settings: https://misterreplay.com/mister-fpga-gu ... #chapter19

For the settings and cabling for your specific PVM I'm sure someone else here can guide you through it.

After you've set everything up I suggest trying Remote extension. It makes adjusting settings so much easier.

Okkkk I didn't know you can edit from the Mister itself from the scripts subfolder, Thanks!
Composite_sync is 1 now, but still not getting an image from my PVM. FYI, there's two VGA ports on my MisTercade I tried both still no picture,

Anyone can help me with the cabling + configuration setup to get this Mistercade working on my PVM?
Current cabling im using is VGA to Scart Female + Scart Male to RGBH (plus two RCA audio cables)
Maybe I should get a direct VGA to RGBH cable? or VGA to Component (Ypbpr)? Any suggestions anyone :)
