If I were to put it together myself, would you recommend any changes, or build it with the same components as the aliexpress seller? (just curious if you guys have a better solution for the speakers, they are so very quiet)
9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
I'm pulling optical audio from my MMS and not bothering with the screen speakers.
Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
Wanted to give a final update to the screens I ordered. The third one has the same backlight bleeding issues as the others. Out of all of them, the least was the first one (with the HDMI/VGA adapter) but was clearly mishandled, same with the 2nd one came damaged out of the box. The third one came clean, no visible damage. The menu buttons were not nearly as good as the 2nd screen, however I did notice this 3rd one has noticablely less input lag (the 2nd one was really noticable and terrible) SO I'm not sure what that is all about.
All of them had their flaws, but I think if the first one didn't have damage, I would have been happy with that one, oh well. Was hoping 3rd time's the charm but really they were all riddled with problems. I'd like to think it's because the screens are older, but I am still using a dell u2410 and it's pushing 15 years old, running every single day for 10+ hours with zero backlight bleed.
I will likely try to find a locked screen and salvage it for parts and try that route, not because it will be cheaper, but because I can inspect the screens beforehand to see if there's bleeding. Buying these from overseas is a gamble, and after talking with the seller, they don't back their products.

It might be worth parting everything out and see if the controllers are actually different. then at least when you get your good screens you can put the best controller and housing with the best screen.
sucks you had to go through three!

I thought they'd be out of stock permanently. I was on eBay for unrelated reasons and saw a suggestion to buy more. I have all I need, but I wanted to share that info here since several people have asked about them after they went out of stock. I'm glad you were able to get them!

Thank you so much for the heads-up! I had checked a couple of times but I also started to think they were not coming back.
I recently had a food stain on the original plastic surface and it was an absolute nightmare to remove, it got way worse initially. It also seems very easy to scratch. I have brought my display to a couple of events, so it will be very nice to have some extra protection on it.

Hello! I just noticed that this screen is unavailable via this link: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001689746001.html
Has anyone bought these from another AliExpress seller?

None of these seem to be available for the Netherlands anymore, for some reason. A friend was interested in getting one as well, but that seems to be tricky now.

Does the 2x mini hdmi version still support 50hz?
I have vga version bought a few years and it is 60hz only, but I'm keen to pick a 50 hz unit - if someone can speak to the chances of still being able to pick up a model which supports that.

Hello,
I'm using many iPad retina screen since many months, actually for me the best controller is this one :
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32979840359.html (5v micro usb power input, hdmi / mini hdmi input) testing it with mister laggy i got 2 or 3ms lag.
Some photos running neogeo and gameboy core.
It's a fan project SF1 Mini case => https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjuEUvLP-MI
Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
I took a punt on 2xhdmi mini from giviveni store. Works fine with 50hz mister, and actual speccy and friends (when run through 2x scan doubler for actual vintage hw).

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread - it's been very helpful in finding the perfect screen for my new Mister setup. I wanted something that wouldn't take up too much of my very limited desk space, and this screen does the job nicely. I got mine from ebay, from a UK seller (I'm also in the UK), only £50 so a bit of a bargain. Mine looks to be perfect, with no issues whatsoever.
I also wanted to add another potential display stand to people's list. I looked everywhere for something that was small and discrete, that rotated, and ideally had a VESA mount so it didn't have large brackets either side of the screen holding it in place. Basically I wanted my setup to look like a mini computer, so that I can feel like I'm on real hardware when I'm on a computer core like the Spectrum or C64.
I eventually got this one from Amazon, not cheap though, £50, and it had to come from the US but it only took 4 days. It's solid metal, and has a VESA mount and the top rotates freely 360 and it tilts. I got a white one but it comes in black as well. It also has mounting holes in the base so it can be fixed to the desk if required (but not necessary as the weight of the screen is not enough to topple it over) or even mounted to a wall.

Like I said not cheap, but for me it was well worth it to give me that clean, mini PC look on my desk!

No worries. This was the ebay listing. Doesn't look like this particular seller has any more at this moment in time though.

Wow you got a steal at 50!
I wouldn't expect those go back in stock.

Awesome, that looks exactly the same as the one I have, but with a VESA mount. I've just ordered this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006253271015.html which looks exactly the same, but at a lower price.

Received the stand with the Vesa mount a couple of days ago. It is exactly the same as the one I had, minus the branding on the foot. The Vesa mount makes it much more clean looking.
Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
I got one of these about two years ago but I always found the screen very bizarre. Any kind of fingerprint or dust would look like it was permanent.
I saw people here recommending buying a locked iPad 3 and getting the display themselves. I was researching this on Youtube when multiple videos explicitly warned against getting finger oils or fingerprints etc on them.
So if that is the case does that mean a screen protector is absolutely critical for these? I've never seen anyone expressly mention this. Which is odd if the screen cannot be touched in the slightest and it's so important.

It is quite hard to clean the display, but not impossible. Adding a glass protector will make it much more easy to clean and more scratch-resistant.

Bare LCD panels are particularly fragile, easy to scratch and smudge. You could always leave the ipad glass on the display to protect it. You'd inherit some bezel, but its 'free' if you go the diy approach to source your own panel.

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
I purchased a VGA/HDMI board from AliExpress and the screen is very dim/dark. Side by side with a regular iPad:
It’s the same issue whether use a 5V or 12V PSU - so I don’t think power delivery is the issue.
My board has an RTD2556 chip (photo below). My OSD menu does not allow me the adjust the backlight, and even with the regular brightness at max the screen is still very dim/dark.
Has anyone seen a similar issue?
Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
Huh, that sucks. Have you tried contacting the seller? I know that can be hit or miss, but they might be able to help if you show them pics or a video, maybe they'll give you a refund. If not, you could maybe try installing a different board.

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄
The seller was mostly unhelpful and suggested that “perhaps the backlight panel of the control board has burned out” and that I should “check it, and confirm the fault by replacing the parts.”
Unfortunately I have no data sheets or schematics to diagnose the issue
Tempted to just buy another controller board and give it a try. Is there a “best recommended” board to get? I’m reluctant to go back to the same seller.
