MiSTer and Cubase

Hi everyone. Any updated links for 2024 for where to buy MISTer hardware and what software version and where to download ?

I want to build a retro ST Cubase setup, possible together with the Pi32 for both some Midi recordingand retro gaming. mainly cause I miss the Atari days, but a little rusty in what cubase versions is a vailable on the MISTer compared to the old hardware. I used to work with Oficial Cubase Score (no dongle cracks as they werent really stable at all until the PC versions cam up and used several years regretting updating to the PC version cause of the unstable midi until it finally got stable around ver. 5 of the PC software.

So basicly looking for some hints what and where to buy it. Planning to at least "try" to sync it up with my current Cubase 13on the PC. just to have a "retro" setup for simple midi work.

Any help will be apreciated as I am totally new to MISTer but pretty well with computers and kinda want to play around with some Pi projects too bedide my main System.

Where you *buy really depends on your location and what you buy depends on your setup. There is also new hardware being worked on.

If you are going to or interested in an Atari ST only setup you should have a look at this simple and cheap project. Creator is Till Harbaum who also created the original MiST device years ago.

If you are going to or interested in an Atari ST only setup you should have a look at this simple and cheap project. Creator is Till Harbaum who also created the original MiST device years ago.

Primarily interested in ST but also find retro gaming interesting. I'd still prefere to have the ability for a "clean" build and be willing to pay a little premium for a nice build in a prebuild or 3d printed casing. Not interested in a breadboard solution. A little chunky connections is ok. as long as it's able to use primarily standard modern connections like usb and hdmi for hooking up periferials like mouse, keyboard, storage and network connections. Also would be tempted to opt for the larger sized and more expensive FPGA's for possible better future cores that may support more advanced systems in the future. But getting a stable ST(e) solution that runs Cubase as flawless as possible is focus. The Amiga /C64 etc. is optional.I'm an Atari geek and proud of it

I mainly got stuck on ST Emus as the available dongle hacks was still wonky at best. Always used Original software in the old days for my music. Even the welknown 100% reverse enginered Cubase 5 for the PC still had ocasional crashes with the dongle emu.

Absolutely correct and yeah, MiSTer is the/one of the best one can get (owning and using three). But the Tang Nano isn't a simple breadboard project. You can build your own PCB right now, having USB, HDMI and MIDI for a handful of bucks. And it's only a matter of time if someone is starting and selling read-to-run builds. I built some just for playing around and they already work great.

I fear my patience and finger agility is not what it used to be, so looking for an easy to go kit to assemble. I don't wanna have to do major soldering like i used to years ago. I soldered a cpu socket onto the 6800 of my Atari 1040STfm back in the days to mount a 286 pc kit on top. was kinda a fun lil project to have a 1mb PC inside the ST and it actually worked quite well .. if you think ms-dos is fun

Got to say as a Cubase user back in the early 90s, I have no nostalgia for it compared to todays. I guess if you have a couple of Akai S900s, a real to reel and want to preserve the pain it was back then to make anything. Then there's all the studio re patching to go back to another track....
