F12 not working on some cores

I have an issue with some cores.

An example is Gauntlet II. F12 to get me to the options no longer works. I don't think I messed anything up.
I removed the Gauntlet II config file, but I still can't access my Mister menu once it loads.

Any thoughts?

I don't have a solution but I tried to recreate the issue and I have no problem accessing the OSD using F12 on the keyboard.
