Ram upgrades for the Multisystem

Forgive me if this is dumb question, as I'm just starting to learn about all this stuff...I'm pllanning out a multisystem build and I see this "right-angle" ram upgrade for the MMS:

I've read some good reviews of it here and on reddit, but they are just anecdotal "some games ran better" sorta thing. For my build I'm going to have the slice tray underneath the multisystem case, and my thought is that if I wanted to I could cut a hole in the bottom of the case and then I'd have room to install a "standard" v.3 ram stick used in a conventional stack build:

Question is which of these ram sticks is better? Or would the difference be so marginal as to not make a difference? These questions might be moot since I'm not sure if the v3 ram stick is what's default installed one the MMS board?

Before you go buying new RAM - are you having any issues with the existing RAM?

I haven't bought anything at all yet. This is more just academic curiosity at this point.

To rephrase the question, what are the differences between these ram sticks and does one offer significantly better performance?

Things will either work or not work. If your current RAM is working ok, the "upgrade" won't do anything at all.

I wouldn't pay attention to Reddit. There were some issues with the Saturn core earlier in the year, this may be where the discourse is from. This has since been resolved in the core with tweaks to the memory controller.

As has been already said; things will either work, or they won't. FPGA cores function very differently to software emulators. As long as the SDRAM is built-to-spec, 128MB (for larger Neo-Geo/N64 games) and runs at 140MHz~ it will work. There are also dual SDRAM setups but I wouldn't bother unless you plan to tinker with the early Jaguar core.

If you are curious about how all of this works please read the wiki, the articles here and check out many of the videos on YouTube. If you have yet to purchase anything, it's probably in your best interest to wait and see what happens with the cheaper DE10-Nano clones coming.

The new memory is one of the first of several updates we're making to MMS. We started with the improved BGA memory module mainly because the original memory module simply didn't work with the SATURN core. The games that run better are the same games that failed with the v2.5 memories. New accessories and addons have been sent to Ukraine in order to improve and introduce new features to the SATURN core. In the meantime, Sergey has improved the memory controller to make the core compatible with all RAMs.

If you have any questions, we're happy to help. The same BGA horizontal variant will now be introduced with the new I/O 24, now that all the cores have been migrated to the new framework.
