Retro Fighters OG XBOX style Hunter Wireless

Unread post by seastalker »

Though I don't see it as actually listed as compatible with MiSTer or Pocket/Dock, I have the fairly new Hunter controller, and hoping to get it working with MiSTer. It works great with the dongle for OG XBOX, and connects wirelessly on PC with the USB dongle. However, no love on MiSTer yet. I use a keyboard to get to the mapping of this new controller, but MiSTer doesn't get past trying to press 'right' on the dpad. I even tried it wired to MiSTer vis a cable but that did nothing.

The lights on the usb dongle and controller indicate they are talking to each other at least... just not to MiSTer.

Another odd thing: Windows recognizes the Retro Fighter's dongle as... an "8BitDo Receiver (Controller)" ???

IF anyone else has this controller, would you mind reporting back if yours works on MiSTer? It's a great controller IMHO, but this info may be helpful for others before buying it exclusively for MiSTer use. Maybe support will get added?

Sounds like it's in some kind of Nintendo Switch mode if it's not working for you. First of all see if you can get the controller/dongle out of Nintendo Switch mode, make sure you can put it in XInput mode. Next, do the firmware update for the dongle if available.

If it shows up as an 8bitdo receiver in windows than they either borrowed the PID:VID, or 8BitDo manufactured their dongle this time.

Just a quick update - Beware to all: I flashed both dongles to update their SEPARATE firmwares (following the instructions and bricking warnings to a T) and they BOTH bricked. Again, I did not mix up firmwares nor software to flash them. Their update software does not seem ready, at least in my experience.

Fortunately, Retro Fighters was awesome with a VERY quick email or two, and they sent out replacement dongles right away! Very good customer service from Retro Fighters here.

I am not even considering updating the firmware this time until their flashing software gets updated. I will have to live without this controller on MiSTer for now and just use it for intended platforms. It's a shame though as the firmware update is said to improve directional issues some people are having.

If anyone else here gets it working on MiSTer please do let me know, thanks.
