ZX Spectrum reproduction model, The Spectrum, to be released soon

Unread post by PistolsAtDawn »

This might make a fun housing for a MiSTer build! Has a UK price of £89, with a speculated USA price of $99.

I don't think you'll be able to fit a MiSTer inside a Spectrum case, but if you want to give it a try and even avoid the new emulator, we have new cases at UltimateMiSTer.com that are compatible with the original ZX Spectrum and ZX Next, including new dedicated FPGA boards.

Apart from the Next, are there any dedicated FPGA boards with HDMI video output + scanlines/shadowmask support?

The eLeMeNt ZX has HDMI and scanlines (fairly simple Scanlines, just like the Next).

Does the N-GO count? It’s a Next clone.

There's also the Omni 128k, it does not have (working) HDMI but the option to use it aa a laptop compensates.

And of course the Recreated ZX Spectrum. No longer sold but available on ebay. Works as a keyboard for the MiSTer: viewtopic.php?t=3491

Empty cases (sold now by several vendors) could be used with my USB keyboard project (it's not abandoned, it's just progressing slowly). https://codeberg.org/pgimeno/ZXUSBKB

The PCB for the Spectrum case has not been updated in the repo yet, but locally I have it ready except for a screw that is off by 0.2 mm or so. The PCB for the ZX81 case is giving me more problems, mainly because the empty case I used for reference is broken, and those are not being sold as new, like the Spectrum rubber keyboards are.

Back to the topic, I wonder what powers the replica in the OP. If it's a Raspberry Pi, it just doesn't cut it for me. After seeing the extremely low latency and the perfect 50 FPS frame rate in the MiSTer core, I wouldn't settle for anything worse than it.
