List of games disappear sporadically

Unread post by jfml1974 »

Occasionally when I'm in a game list (arcade, consoles, etc.) when I'm moving in the list, it disappears and I have to go back and re-enter the game list... I changed the SD and it continues sporadically. I don't know if it's a software error or USB hub interference etc...

Instinctually I would say this is either power supply related and/or your USB hub is to blame.

  • Which power supply are you using?

  • Which USB hub are you using and how are you powering it?

I use a 12.5v 4A power supply reduced by a step down to 5.1v I have a 4-port USB hub... I have noticed other times that there are movements in the menus without me touching anything. I tried 2 HUBs of 4 ports both... strange.

  • Power supply is measured with multimeter and FPGA pcb consumes maximum 1am+- QMTECH ( 128Mb Integrated)

I wouldn't use a cheap buck converter to step-down 12v if I were you, you are asking for trouble. The QMTech power supply that comes with the board is actually pretty ok; it's no Meanwell but it is reasonably well built and more importantly stable when loaded.

Are the USB hubs you are using powered? Even on the DE10-Nano, variable power draw from USB peripherals without a powered USB hub can cause this behaviour. It is why the official usb hubs are designed to be powered independently.

I went back to the original power supply and I'm going to try to put power to the hub. I realized that when starting the controllers fail (I have a zero delay converter for the arcade). The LED lights on the converters blink randomly.. when everything is fine they do not blink. I use translator my language Spanish

I have a question. The power supply of the concentrator
Does the FPGA USB feed back?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean but the USB port on the QMTech board does supply power but if it's anything like the DE10-Nano don't rely on it to supply enough current for high-draw peripherals like you are describing. Get a decent, powered USB hub.

When the hub is powered, the USB ports of the hub and the USB that connects the hub to the FPGA are output.. (I hope this is clear, thanks)

Something might be getting lost in translation.

Are you getting voltage back-fed from the USB hub?

Yes I tried a hub and a half on USB input to the hub and it receives power... Later I will try with another hub to verify if it is like that in all of them

I disabled the trackball USB and I have the original power supply with the QMTECH pack and so far no problems... I will be a few days with this configuration and then I will have the USB trackball again.
