I again tried to order one today, logged well in advance, i was able to take one , but the time to type my address and my VISA# (about 1min) and "No stock available" appeared.
In total 3 minutes between the opening of the sales and the running out....
A VERY frustrating experience.

I will be waiting for my QMTech board that is on the way now and forget about MisterPi.

I'm excited as I was able to snipe one. Looking forward to get into MiSTer after watching from the sidelines since I saw LGR cover it years ago.

I was one of the first to get my order in so I snagged me a Mister Pi Mega bundle!

Now it says SOLD OUT!

Hope everyone get a chance to buy one!

No worry at all. Taki wrote meantime that the second batch will be twice as big. Forecast was next 30 Days. That should be the next change to grab one of these. Today i was lucky to get one. Lets see if the board will run with the mms.

Are you guys implying that both Taki and QMTech use pulled (re-used) chips?
Are you sure about that?
(This is out of curiosity, as I already have many MiSTer setups around for different use cases)

There is a odd belief that due to the boards being cheaper than the DE10, they have to be using salvaged chips. There is no evidence for this

Quite wrong...and there's even photographic evidence in this very forum, not to mention the maker himself stating such before production even began. There's nothing wrong with that, mind you...the primary impact is to supply, not quality.

(That being said, for clarity, this is only for the QMTech boards - Taki's appear to be new stock.)

I saw a picture from the FPGA Chip on the cave discord. On the Photo the datecode was 19/2024. That seems brand new chips and not used ones.

Is that for the Taki Mister Pi or the QMTech board?

Not sure if people just aren't actually following the thread or what, but that's not in dispute (nor has it been). Thanks for your contribution.

I've heard some people expressing doubts whether his deal with Altera is real.

I don't think there ever was a "deal with Alterra". The FPGAs are clearly chip pulls. Intel doesn't/wouldn't do those themselves and they don't resell used chips. They have to be coming from a recycler.

I think people may experience confusion because there were previously made statements that didn’t specify QMT. Since this is a thread titled “MiSTer Pi” I can only assume people think those statements are about the MiSTer Pi.

Edited to add;
Someone would need to go back and read the full post quoted to realize QMT was who I assume akeley was referring.

Yes, the chips he's using are likely brand new. You can find new bulk stock of the slightly different model numbers that are fully compatible if you look deep enough for like 25-35 bucks each. However, with them selling this fast if the suppliers get word of that the price may not stay this way for long.

It could have been worse?

MiSTer FPiGA maybe?

The only reason I don't like the name is because there are sooo many "pi" devices; orange, banana, raspberry... I'll stop here before I get gross.

i wonder how long they took to sell out. i'd be surprised if i dont see them on ebay with an added 1/3rd price increase.

the mega pack was sold out after 5 mins

5 min, less than 2. The dang site wouldn't allow me to enter my address and by the time I got that done it said it was sold out and removed from my cart. I was a little frustrated. I made an account and added my information the night before so I wouldn't have trouble and it was for nothing.

Maybe those clone boards are too cheap? Some problems began appearing, like some problems with core speed:

It really is unimaginative. It also was likely not already copyrighted.

The Cyclone V isn't that expensive. It's the Intel Board, or what Intel wants for it. Hardly suprising that Chinese board manufacturer can produce the whole thing for a much better price.

That's not true. From solid sources the single chip was priced mostly the same as the complete DE10 Board. Thats why nobody makes a clone all the years. I dont know why there are now cheaper, but if the price was really cheap, QMTech would not use pulled chips. Look also on Vampire cards, they use a cheaper chip, but the price is high...

The original DE10 Board still costs what? 220 US Dollar? And the Cyclone V FPGA these days? 70-90 US Dollar? Taki said Batch 2 is even bigger. So he obvioulsy made a good deal for more than 4000 FPGAs already. Can't imagine that he paid more than 50-60 US Dollar each.

Whatever the Cyclone V source, this is a great solution to be able to finally get a Mister at a reasonable price.
Only issue for now is the availability as they have a tendency to sell off within 3 minutes that is very frustrating.
Hope that the October batch will be much larger in order to satisfy any buyer out there.

Not sure if that is realy a problem of Mr. Pi Addon. I look at the board from ultimatemister.com and it seems there is no jumper for SoG either. But he has the second sd card populated.
Have a deeper look to the schematics, perhaps there is no jumper for it by design ?

SOG was removed from the new design / board but you can activate on the MiSTer ini when using AV module. This was on purpose.
Our board has other details at all levels, button size, ADC, hq connectors, OMRON buttons, led isolators, and many more.
We're never going to sell the boards on the cheap, a lot of time was spent on all the details and also lot of work on updating the cores.
