Remapping Mister Menu Button on NSO N64 Controller

Unread post by timbothehero »

Hi there. Apologies for this fairly noob question but I have a nintendo swtich online controller that I am trying to use with the Mister. I remap all the buttons and it controls fine but I cannot seemt to change the mapping for bringing up the mister menu (which is mapped to the down c button by default i think).

I have tried changing the bindings in the main mister menu (i.e. before any core is loaded) but it seems to only be suitable for contorllers that have two joyticks (it asks for me to lean right on the 2nd joystick) which the N64 controller does not have.

How can I jsut remap the mister menu button to the home button, for example, on the NSO controller?

Sorry if I am missing something realyl obvious here. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The MiSTer menu button (aka OSD button) can be mapped in the main menu. You should have a keyboard plugged in alongside the controller before selecting "Define joystick buttons". If it asks for a 2nd joystick, press Space on the keyboard to skip and continue to the next step.

See the wiki for more information.

Brilliant - thank you.

SHould I basically use space to get through all of the buttons apart from OSD and then configure the inputs on the n64 core menu?

Just skip the 2nd joystick as you don’t have one!

No, only press Space when asked to map buttons that you do not have or do not want to be mapped. Otherwise, they will be undefined. You likely want to map at least the menu navigation buttons.

Thank you all for this - I managed to sort out the issue but weirdly it won't let me mapy the "B" button correctly. All other buttons are fine including assingning menu button to the home button.

I have a spare USB N64 controller which now maps perfectly (two button press for menu) but its not as nice as the NSO controller.

Any idea why "B" wont map on the NSO controller? Everythng else maps perfectly

Might "B" already be mapped? In the main menu, each button can only be mapped once (with some exceptions). You could try to "undefine" all buttons and then define them again. Or simply delete all existing mappings by emptying the directory /media/fat/config/inputs.
