No sound from HD, working fine from FD [Solved]

Unread post by catenaccio »

Hi guys,

Maybe this has been already solved, but I have found nothing:

In a .vhd with DOS 6.22 installed, games running from HD are working fine, but without any sound, however sounds are working fine in games running from FD. Any idea?

Thanks!

Is the soundblaster variable set in your autoexec.bat? Take a look at the autoexec.bat of the boot disc where your sound is working and write down the line with "Blaster=". It should be something like

BLASTER=A200 I5 D1

I am not at home right now to look it up.

This line helps games to autodetect the correct settings for your sound card.

EDIT: I dindt have the soundblaster variable set in autoexec.bat, but after adding it, still no sound in games like doom2. Sound is correctly configured in SETUP file

@catenaccio,

If SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 doesn't work once set in your Autoexec.bat, and if you get sound by launching a game via a FDD image, check what is inside the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys which are in your FDD image to figure out what's happening.

But for me there is no reason that it doesn't work if you add in your autoexec.bat of your HDD the correct above setting.

PS: Pay attention that the address is 220h and not 200h (A220 and not A200).

When you say games running from floppy, are you booting from the floppy or booting from the vhd then typing a: and running the game from the floppy? If it booted from the vhd, it shouldn't matter if the game runs from floppy or vhd, that makes no difference for whether the sound will work. It might just be that the games you have on floppy images work with your current autoexec.bat/config.sys settings, but the games on your vhd don't.

I have set SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 in autoexec.bat, and still no sound

Now I have no sound even from floppy disk (booting from HDD .vhd and then loading from floppy disk). I may have broken something, because yesterday some games had sound from FD :?

Try to slow down system... Sound blaster detection has often issues with too fast cpu. 30 Mhz is usually good

OMG!, I´m so embarrased ....

...All is working fine since I set SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1... the issue was with my HDMI connector!! :oops: Just tried other cores with no sound, and then I realised that the issue was with HDMI cable :mrgreen:

Thank you all for your help!
