Looking for recommended Amiga Vision settings for 17" VGA CRT (Apple Studio Display)

Unread post by markpaterson »

I have the 17" VGA CRT (Apple Studio Display) connected to the analog IO board. It supports 50hz and 60hz at various resolutions. The full spec sheet is here https://support.apple.com/en-us/112292

While Amiga Vision looks great in default settings on my HDMI monitor, I really want to use it on this VGA monitor.

I'm looking for some advice on the optimum settings. I've tried the following custom video modes but when I turn off video processing it's clear that this resolution doesn't give me integer pixels in games…

Code: Select all

[Amiga
+Amiga500
+Amiga500HD
+Amiga600HD]
video_mode_ntsc=1024,768,60 ; These two use the recommended setting of 1080p60 and
video_mode_pal=1024,768,50 ; 1080p50, adjust if you want a different resolution
vscale_mode=0
vsync_adjust=1 ; You can set this to 2 if your display can handle it
custom_aspect_ratio_1=40:27
bootscreen=0

Also please recommend any other settings around the MiSTer environment that I should tweak.

These settings are showing scanlines in RTG mode at 1024x768. Why? How to I customize the resolution cut off point where scanlines are no longer applied? (ie for RTG modes)

ok, i've edited the ini again to give me…
1440,1080,60
1440,1080,50

This preserve's the look of the video processing preset which seems to be optimized for 1080p, while giving me a 4:3 image for the VGA monitor.

Games now look just as good on the VGA monitor in 4:3 as they did on my HDMI monitor in 16:9, HOWEVER I can't figure out how to get a 1440x1080p RTG workbench (or ideally the 540p RTG 2x mode of 720x540). If I knew where the Picasso96 screen editor was hidden I could maybe have half a chance of figuring it out LOL.
