Struggling to get VGA to SCART on my Consumer CRT; help me please :)

Hello everyone

Just received the Mister Pi and absolutely loving it, no issues with HDMI gaming, can't get enough

As the topic suggests, i'm having trouble getting a CRT picture using the VGA on the I/O board.

My TV does accept RGB via SCART, I know this because my actual PS and PS2 work this way.

I am also using Retro Remakes VGA2SCART Box which has been known to work back from my GroovyMame/Radeon days.

This is my setup:

Mister Pi > Analog I/O Board VGA Output (with 5v Jumper) > VGA Cable (with Pin 9 for power) > VGA2SCART (with power supply set to Pin 9) > SCART Cable > CRT TV

When any image or screen change is output from the Mister ,my TV responds by flickering (blanking? ). Ususally I would then expect to see an image, but I just get a black screen. When I load up a core, the TV responds in the same way, leading me to believe that my set-up is sending signals to the TV but there is an issue with what is being sent.

I have tried with 2 different SCART cables with the same result. I have only used one VGA cable, which worked with my GroovyMame setup (but it might be .

I'm not sure how else to trouble shoot this. I would upload a video of the behaviour but I'm at work at the moment

I'm aware that .ini settings need to be configured but I have followed a few different suggestions and none of them have worked. It's possible that I may have missed one.

I have ordered a VGA to SCART cable to cut out the VGA2SCART box and remove that element from the equation.

If anybody has experienced this and has some pointers for me, please tell me, that'd be great!

I seem to recall trying to connect using similar VGA2SCART device before, and it has worked, but overall a dedicated cable is a better solution (though VGA2SCART can help with cores which require modelines, but that's a different story).

So, the basic setup in your case is:
-proper VGA to SCART MiSTer cable
-plus this setting in the mister.ini:

Since you have already changed some things in your mister.ini, I recommend getting a fresh one from here and then applying just this one change.

If you don't have the cable yet, you can try to just apply this .ini setting and use VGA2SCART, like I said I think it should work. Maybe change sync jumper on it if your device has one and your image is still scrambled (mine is UMSA and it does).

The VGA to Scart cable arrived today and after initialising the ini and a brief period where the image wouldn't stop rolling, everything is working and stable. Thanks for the tips

There is only one, issue, the image is slightly of center. is there anyway of shifting the output of the VGA on the Mister? (I'm playing GunCon games )

Other than that, I'm pretty happy

Only some arcade cores have the image shifting options in OSD menus. Other than that, you can try playing with modelines, tweaking things in your TV's service menu, or buying an external shifter (eg a cheap Extron).
