New build 241007 update loop

Unread post by FoxbatStargazer »

When I run update.sh I get this notice about updating to a new linux build

231108 -> 241007

It downloads linux.img, unpacks it, says it updated successfully and reboot.

Everything seems to work, except the next time I run the updater, it says it need to do 231108 -> 241007 again, downloads linux.img again, extracts, reboots, etc.

I even tried downloading the 241007 zip manually, deleting and replacing the linux folder with its contents, and using the new included SD card utility to flash the boot section. Boot flash claims to work, still the updater wants to download/extract linux.img again.

I'm guessing either the img isn't actually updated or whatever flag the update script is checking for the build version isn't updating... this update came out today so some oversight wouldn't be surprising, just want to confirm its not just my setup.

It should be enough to write 241007 into /MiSTer.version to fix that temporary (tested in a MiSTer emulation).

Is it known that we actually got the new bootloader and the version just isn't being updated?

Yes, looks like that /MiSTer.version is not being adjusted this time.

The only update notice about this I received was by Patreon News from Alexey Melnikov, where he wrote

Linux
This release just has updated Main and Menu. Linux part remains the same, so you don't need to update it. This release is for new installs to support ...

As neither Kernel nor MiSTer or menu.rbf hasn't been updated on my primary MiSTer, is seems that updater.sh/updater_all.sh is downloading these parts from the Distribution_MiSTer...and even these are the same but with another date stamp, this results into the update loop.

In this respect, my statement remains valid:

It should be enough to write 241007 into /MiSTer.version to fix that temporary (tested in a MiSTer emulation).

Thanks for that update information! But this is now - um - hardcoded and I'm sure will again lead to another hickup in the future when the version is really changing ;)

As far as i can see you need 2 update-runs to get to real updated linux after this change has been reverted sometimes - first run updates the updater back to old behavior and second run then does the real linux update

Manually from Windows application mister sd card utility release_20241008 clean full.

I'm reinstalling everything from scratch and then I'll put the backup of ROMs etc.

  • No problem with the Update (simple or normal)

*** Edit

No problem with update_all
