1TB MiSTer Fully Loaded Image on hard disk

Unread post by bix1966 »

Hi everyone,
I found a fantastic compilation for Mister on the arcade punks site that I transferred to a hard disk in June, because I couldn't find a 1 TB microsd at a fair price...
Once I had done all the operations I connected the hard disk to my Mister and from the appropriate menu I selected "switch to USB" and as if by magic the Mister restarted with the system it found on the hdd (the image would have to be downloaded to a microSD to be inserted in place of the one you already have) without any problems. It had its settings and configurations and everything worked perfectly.
A few days ago I picked up the Mister and the hdd again, I tried to do the same procedure but this time the Mister can't start...
Once I select "switch to USB" it goes into a loop and can't start the hdd system. I tried to save some .ini and .rbf files from the hdd and then overwrite them by taking them from the microsd that I use and update from Mister but unfortunately the result does not change, it always goes into a loop and cannot start.
The hdd is still recognized and its content is read by Mister, so it's fine like this because I have all the content downloaded, (1TB of stuff!!) but it has become a question of principle to make it work again as before.

Let me know if you have any ideas to try to start Mister from hdd again.

Totally off topic but I grabbed that same 1TB Arcade Punks image you got.
About half of that 1TB image is full of Playstation Magazine cover disks!!

There is not really any advantage to run the whole system from HDD. Put the cores on the SD and keep your roms on the HDD (or better yet a network drive for the best read speeds).

Thanks for the answers, they are very important to me.
I apologize for the OT, I didn't know where to insert this question of mine. I will do as @SwedishGojira advised me because I think it's the best thing.

Hi,
The linux kernel has been updated so you need to copy the files from /media/fat/linux to /media/usb0/linux.
I had the same problems and started just from the sd-card, plugged in the external hdd, got into the shell with F9, logged in and copied the said content with mc and everything worked again.

cheers

I've lost about 32768 sd cards dieing, so I just keep the main mister files on it, the cores, and that's it. The rest goes on an old m.2 NVME 2tb card I had. I know I don't get it's speed, but it's tiny, fits in my wallet if I need to take it to anotherr Mister users etc.

@niallquinn That's why I only use SanDisk-branded cards. I've yet to lose one in 15 years.
