Play From Original Medium?

Unread post by Fulco72 »

Question I have what I can't find.

Would it be possible to play original games you own on the Mister FPGA.

And I mean like original games from example PlayStation from CD/DVD-drive. Or a NES cartridge ? Or any kind of the cartridge system's ? Floppy's drive for the commodore Amiga & C64 ?

This has been discussed ad nauseam. The short answer is no; there are not enough GPIO pins to access carts and CD/floppy systems typically need very low-level access to the drives to function correctly.

The are some outliers like ADC input for tape decks, work on getting C64 1541 drives working over SNAC and Amiga floppy drives but otherwise no, it is not possible. Perhaps take a look at TapTo?

I want to say I remember someone getting a retrode 2 to load games directly from an NES(?) cart but I think it was slow because it had to dump the entire rom before loading but I could be remembering that that wrong.

I has a you tube

Hello,
Effectively, you can find howtos on this youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@GenerationalGamer

Video for genesis games https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyLp56LpfoM
Another video for NES games https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9CkyjtJ6i4

The principle is to use a usb cartridge reader and create a symbolic link that points to the reader in the games directory.
