S-Video Via SCART

Unread post by jujuan »

Hi, I'm posting this question because I can't find any information on the forum or the mister documentation regarding the topic

There are some crt tvs in Europe that have a scart s-video input. Usually, it’s next to the rgb scart input.

Can I use the same vga to rgb scart cable sellers have in store, to get Y/C via the scart s-video input?
Can I also get stereo sound the via scart input, while using direct video (HDMI>VGA>SCART)?
Would you need to do the Sync On Green Circuit modification for direct video (HDMI>VGA>SCART)?

This would save people some money, because they wouldn't need to buy an adapter to get s-video. You wouldn't need to buy an analog i/o also, since you would be getting s-video and sound via the scart input.

I get the impression that most RGB cables made nowadays aren't wired for S-Video, you could maybe ask some of them if they'd be willing to wire them, it's a fairly easy soldering job. But I believe this would only work with an analog board. In my setup at least, passive S-Video only works with my 6.1 analog board, i need an active adapter to get S-Video with direct video.

I have yet to see a set in Europe which would have S-Video but not RGB. Imo, in this situation it's always better to use RGB, since S-Video looks nearly identical, only a bit worse. So there's no real reason to use it, unlike composite, which does offer a different "look".
