Toaplan
At least three individual devs have expressed their interest at tackling these legendary cores (@nullobject, @Darren_O, and of course Jotego).
Darren seems to have advanced pretty deep into the v1 hardware already!
Let's motivate them people!

Re: Toaplan
i think nullobject and jotego have their hands full for a while,
and darren specifically said hes not planning on working on anything past zero wing.
(his zero wing core is more of a test/project in FPGA development).
also, nullobject has a bunch of work left to complete the 1st gen cave titles,
and jotego is working on system 16 and then likely/hopefully PGM.
i do remember nullobject talking about making a toaplan v1/v2 core at some point, and he already has the boards to develop with.
however, at his current cave game's pace, were looking at late october or december before we see a complete-ish list of the 1st cave games.
at which point, theres no telling if he will continue to make FPGA cores immediately afterwards. he does good work, but its very far between updates from nullobject. i understand this is not his full-time job, so its not a big deal to me. im happy with what has been made so far.
now, jotego is a pretty fast developer. i could see him having a fairly complete toaplan core made in about that same time, if he starts soon.
but again, hes still got work on system 16, remaining CPS2 bugs, and his future core plans are being decided by his patreons/directors.
the next jotego core is very much a mystery at this point.

Jotego got the original Demon`s World pcb from me so I expect sooner or later he will start with a Toaplan pcb

I agree, this sound track is simply outstanding! Re: Toaplan
Truxton II would be very exciting since it only got ported to the FM Towns.
"I think Truxton could easily open for Def Leppard and I think even Def Leppard would have a tough time trying to compete with the enthusiasm that Truxton would bring to the crowd."

Re: Toaplan
Agreed, Tatsujin Oh (Truxton 2) should be first on the list for Toaplan core(s).Hyper Space Squid wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 8:18 pm Truxton II would be very exciting since it only got ported to the FM Towns.

Re: Toaplan
Tatsujin Oh is in fact the game that I sent to nullobject, so it's the most likely candidate for the first Toaplan V2 release.
If any FPGA dev wants to borrow a Truxton PCB, I'm open to help.

Are all of the TOAPLAN games on unique boards, or would one core support several titles?

I believe the (or some) Raizing boards have extra chips, but I could be wrong.moonscience wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 6:45 pm Are all of the TOAPLAN games on unique boards, or would one core support several titles?

Re: Toaplan
Well that's definitely better than each game being on its own board! Version 2 would definitely be a dream, but I'd still be thinking about that version 1 and twin cobras board...

Re: Toaplan
I am finishing Konami's Kicker schematics next week. Toaplan schematics for the Twin Cobra PCB are next.
I am trying to include extracted schematics as part of core releases. Schematics ar good for preservation, repairing and also to allow others to check whether the FPGA implementation is accurate. The first system for which I released schematics was Exed Exes. The schematics revealed a few hardware features which apparently the software didn't use.

Re: Toaplan
Hi Jotego, and thank you for your great work !
For my information, what is your usual workflow when developping a new core ?
Do you start from the original PCB, then draw the electronic schematics ?
I have an original Toaplan V1 board (hellfire) and decent electronic skills and equipement. If one day you need te check some signals, feel free to ask.

Re: Toaplan
Hi N.Master,
If there are no schematics available, I extract them from the PCB either fully or partly depending on the need. Measuring signals is very important too, particularly for custom chips. I have a Demon's World PCB at home from Gyrrus. The plan is to do that one after Flying Shark as they share some chips.

Re: Toaplan
@amano
I can confirm this. I'm getting just a black sceen too. The toaplan core (Truxton 1+2) does have a very unsatisfatory sound emulation anyway up to this point (compard to MAME which sounds way more correct). But maybe the author of the core will come back to this one day?
