SNAC adaptor board and controller ports

Unread post by laserface »

hi all

looking to use my original controllers (snes and megadrive for now) on the mister and looking to get the SNAC usb adaptor

this one
https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister ... apter-usb/

and these adaptors
https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister ... -adapters/

my question is, do i need just one SNAC usb and then use a USB hub of sorts for the controller port adaptors?
or do i need snac usb for each controller port?

thanks

I don't have a SNAC adapter, so I'm not 100% on this, but from what I understand from looking into it myself, there is no way to have more than one adapter/controller connected to snac at once, even if you are only actually using one at a time.

You just need the 1 SNAC board and you change the adapter when you want to use a different controller.

Maybe if there was some kind of physical usb switch that might work to allow you to have all the adapters connected at once and press a button to switch between them, but I'm not sure such a thing exists and the "usb" port snac plugs into is not actually usb it just uses the connector, so it may not work anyways.

I was pretty sure this wasn't going to fly, but I just tested a single port board connected to a USB hub and the SNAC adapter connected to the hub. Neither worked. The I/O port is not USB, so if you took a hub apart and directly wired the lines, it might work (you could get data collisions with two controllers connected, but they could both be dummied into place). But it won't work with standard USB peripherals.

I would recommend getting/making Daemonbite usb adapters instead:
https://www.daemonbite.com/shop/

They are usb but have very low input lag. According to MisterAddons' input lag spreadsheet when used with original controllers they have 1-2ms input lag, or a 90%+ chance of your inputs being read on the same frame you pressed the button.

Some convenience things about using SNAC that you might not be aware of as well is that you can't control the core menus with it and you need to use the matching controller with each core.

Sorry to necro such an old thread but I can absolutely recommend this SNAX64 adapter from Misteraddons.com. I got one a few weeks ago and it's been fantastic. Zero lag.

Sorry to interrupt you but the ultimatemister snac adapters are better and not that expensive:
