Update For New Analog IO Boards

Unread post by RetroSwim »

Hiya! I found that the PCXT core needed the MiSTer framework updated to do analogue out with newer IO boards, like the one that comes with Mister Pi.

Update and release available here: https://github.com/RetroSwimAU/PCXT_MiSTer/tree/main

Change proposal here: https://github.com/spark2k06/PCXT_MiSTer/pull/103

Hopefully this is helpful to someone <3

Thank you for bringing this up. I'm still using the old I/O board and modelines to run ao486 & PCXT cores in 15kHz. Didn't know PCXT needs an update for the new boards.

Apparently the only versions translated to English are the CPC version (which is the original) and a modernized one which is on Steam. The CPC one is called The Abbey of Crime and the Steam one is The Abbey of Crime Extensum, and appears to be free. The PCXT one doesn't seem to be translated.

"La Abadía del Crimen" was a masterpiece that never left Spain in its original version. The first version was for CPC 128Kb, then it was ported to the rest of the computers. It was in Spanish, and as pgimeno said, there is no English translation other than a CPC one (fanmade) and the Steam remake (which is a cool game by the way, I like it more than the original).

I think Opera Soft (the publisher who bought the rights to the game from the original authors, Paco Menendez and Juan Delcan) lost a great opportunity to bring a great game to other countries, and one of the best opportunities to make the Spanish 8-bit game programming scene soar. This IBM PC version was quite popular at the time.

By the way, if you play the PC game (in Spanish, sorry!!!) and manage to get to the church service and the game is not original, instead of hearing a sampled "Ave Maria" song, the game plays a sample of "Pirate! Pirate! Pirate!" in different pitches and resets the computer. In Spain, I think all teenage MSDOS users have heard this at least once in our lives xDDD.

I just updated the latest PCXT core and I'm amazed that this core works perfectly on my CRT and with color! Even the terminal text looks decent and readable. Great work!! My only question is, why does this core work so well on my CRT with color and the ao486 only shows black and white?
