Running Concurrent A0486 Core with Top300

HI all,

I am still wrapping my head around all the configs, cores, and setup of the MiSTer, so excuse me the stupid questions.

I am a big fan of the old 486, and Dos + Windows Games, and want to have an awesome setup to play some of those old games. I have finally got the a0486 core working, and understanding how to load games etc.

I came across the Top300 core, and want to run it concurrently without overwriting my current a0486 directory, and files that I have, is there a way to run both safely so that I dont ruin things? I havent even found install structions for Top 300 so dont know how best to even install it.

I am presuming i could do the same for 0mhz as well, if suits.

Any guidance from the experts is appreciated! Thanks for your help.

Do you mean Top300 (Flynsbit games old VHD pack)? If yes, then you could make your custom MGL file. Look at one of the 0MHz games, copy and rename MGL file from the archive and then edit it with paths to master and slave VHDs.

Can you explain to me how to find these games in the correct format to run with 0mhz dos?
I got the official collection, and a few other titles. But I am not finding close to every dos game worth playing in the correct format.
Is there a special search term I should be using? or what is it that I am missing? I have only found maybe a few hundred games.

Specifically I am looking for "Freddy Fish", "Pajama Sam" and other kids point and click adventure games for my 4 year old.

... I have a few later DOS titles I am looking for myself, but they likely push beyond what is possible on mister fpga.. so really just the kids games I'm seeking at the moment. Point and click mysteries, puzzles, math and spelling, etc.

Personally, I've no problem with Flynns pack whatsoever. He keeps updating the git for it, well last April, despite wiping it from here and the archive.

Typically you'd go archive.org and search for: name 0mhz where name is the title you're interested in. I don't want to create the impression that every DOS game ever released is available there in 0mhz format, and the titles you mentioned sound obscure (I certainly never heard of them) which means that you need to ask someone to package them for you or package them yourself in 0mhz format.

If you search "ao486 dos" there's at least one by-year collection with every game up to 1989 on a vhd. There also used to be separate vhds using the TDL launcher with later years, but I can't see them now.

Overall, the "0Mhz format" is not a requirement to run DOS games on MiSTer. You can simply find a particular title elsewhere and then install it on a vhd with MS-DOS. It's not really that complicated - sometimes as simple as moving an archive from PC to ao486 shared folder and copying it to your MS-DOS hdd. If you don't have the experience to do that, you can ask around here, and I'm pretty sure somebody would be willing to help.
