The issues I described were with IO Board v6.1. The design itself is 18-bit and predates the PSX core. Direct Video is the option to display full 24-bit video from the PSX core on CRTs, for now. It looks like the MiSTer CRT page was updated with the latest info on March 1st. It states in simple terms that direct video allows for "better colour depth" than the IO board does.

is there a specific revision of mister io board for 24bit? I thought only buying a normal IO v6.1 would fix the issue for me to play on a trinitron crt. Since my v6.0 shows the issue on color bars.

with your io board v6.1 did you try vga to component?

v6.1 IO board from like Misteraddons will probably fix your red block issue. As Vicosku said, current v6.1 boards are all 18 bit as far as I know. I tried VGA to VGA pc monitor but didn't try component. If you're ok with extra banding in PSX FMV then getting new 6.1 should be fine but I'd wait for new design and use direct video for now.

Is there a way to download the experimental PSX2X build without a Discord account?

what about this page?

I was using it to download latest, so is it outdated? The PSX_unstable_20230330_170b11.rbf

He was asking for the special PSX2X build, which runs the CPU at double clock speed.
You posted the link for the unstable build of the normal core.

So both links provide the newest versions, each for it's category :)

Benefits of the fast CPU core? A small ammount of games run significantly better, than with the normal core. Driver3 for example goes up to framerates that you don't get with the normal core even when you activate all CPU enhancements.
