Just heard back about the darker image: "well that certainly shouldn't happen. Maybe they somehow screwed something else up while they were inside. It's possible they may have accidentally bumped the g2 knob on the flyback transformer while removing the back cover."

I'm not exactly sure what that is, but where would I find it to fix it?

Down on the main motherboard of the TV, there is a big black plastic piece with usually 2 knobs on it and a big high voltage cable coming out of it. One is usually focus, and the other is the G2 knob. Before turning the G2 knob at all, you should mark it somehow or remember where it was with your finger position before turning it, in case it doesn't help so you can turn it back to where it was. It might just need a very small adjustment to brighten the image back up to where it was. Be very careful because this is a high voltage area.

Also, it's hard to tell from the photo, but the lower left of the two big capacitors on the neck board looks like it might be bloated. That could be a bad capacitor.

Holy shit, you guys are geniuses man. So I ended up getting the component adapter from Antonio because I didn't have the shimmering issues with it, but I always found it so dark in comparison. turns out I just had to fiddle with this knob, so i can play without the issue and have a bright picture. Jesus Christ. Still don't know why component is the way it is, but this is a huge help.

Great! So what is the current status? You mentioned component adapter, but maybe you meant composite? So is the composite working well now without shimmering? I am confused. Glad it is getting better. Is component the only thing that shimmers, and the MiSTer is your only component device to test it with? If so, it could be a failing part in the component pathways on the circuit board. I have the same issue but the opposite with my Sony TV. Component is perfect, but composite and Svideo are bad. I plan to fix it.

Yeah I meant Composite! So composite doesn't have the odd effect and I can get a brighter, crisper picture using those dials you showed me. Component is the only noticeable shimmer. Composite / SVideo doesn't really have any, or it's lessened. End of the day, i can now play the mister perfectly on my CRT, I'm glad we were eventually able to come to some sort of a solution. Thanks for all the help!
