Today I posted another version.
- SCC sound fix
- adjustment of the number of VDP lines
- support for two cartridges
- BIOS upload support
- firmware/Hangul ROM support
This is INCREDIBLE. SCC sound is now perfect!
Thanks for this, really, I hope you are having fun developing this core too!
You have resurrected the hope on a proper MSX core, and here we have it!!!
Please, please make THIS the official MSX1 core, this wonder deserves to be widely known via update_all.

I added MSX1 to the official repository.
At the same time I replaced the BIOS with an opensource BIOS and added a few small things.

So good to see a well appointed MSX Core. Thank you @molekula.
FDD support seems to have become unavailable via the OSD unless I'm missing something

You can change the first cartridge slot mapper to FDD.

This is amazing, wasnt aware of this at all! HX-10 was my first computer & I always wanted an msx core that worked like the others, able to load tapes & carts etc. Thank you for your hard work

This core is awesome! It's been a lot of fun to get the authentic MSX experience.

As a casual who just wants to explore the gaming library, I still find this core better and easier to use, simply loading ROMs from the OSD rather than waiting forever for them to unzip in Sofarun with the other core, which may end up being deprecated once the MSX2 core matures.
BTW, is it possible to save for games like Dragon Quest?

Is it available with "update all" script?

Yes, this core was added to official repository as MSX1 a few months ago. There's also a test version with MSX 2 support on github that you have to install manually for now.

Is there a way to load/save progress from a .cas file in Metal Gear? Alternatively, if someone knows of a different way to save the game progress, that would also be great.

you could use Game Master 2 and use save disk functionnality.
So you need to put Game Master 2 in slot 1, Metal Gear in slot 2 and mount a blank disk (dsk)
in game you need to call save disk function of game master 2 and save your progress on the disk.

Where on github? I've been meaning to check this out, but all I can find on there is the rbf of the stable release from November
Edit: Nevermind, found it. Here's the link for anyone else who sucks at navigating GitHub on mobile like I do lol:

Regarding the MSX2 core, I am struggling to get it started. I downloaded the latest rel but I don't know how to configure the bios pack I downloaded from https://vampier.net/MSX/; I tried unpacking it but clearly I'm missing a step, as a result I just have a black screen from which I can only get out by rebooting.

I've just tried the MSX1 (MSX1_20221130) after quite a long time of not using it. The OS starts and boots into MSX Basic, but I can't do anything: neither keyboard nor controller register any inputs. Has something changed recently or am I missing something obvious?

Hi,
Sorry to say but I just tried it, same version and I loaded in a tape file. So must be your setup.
Maybe get the Core file again?

Same here. Using the same version I could type in basic screen and also loaded a game and play with the keyboard without problems.

Thank you both for confirming, now I know it's my setup's problem and can investigate more.

Mister newbie, be gentle.
In my games/msx I've the boot.rom 32768 and the boot.vhd.
In my games/msx1 I've the boot.rom which is about 131k ,and all the old cassettes, tapes, rom etc.
So, my questions are these?
Which boot roms do I need for each core, and also, does either of them do the FM Sound that was on the JAP cartridges? I seem to remember the Konami games have great FM sound, although this is 35 years ago. And indeed does either core do the Turbo+ games or whatever it was called?
Thanks.
