Hello,

Can win98 SE run on AO486? Spec wise seems it would:

Minimum CPU
486DX @ 66 MHz
Minimum RAM
16MB

Thanks

Yes. You need to run the setup without the check for CPU, "setup -nm" I think. If that's wrong a Google search will help find the right command switch. Also, read the 98lite setup thread I started in case the floppy problem prevents boot (basically after h/w setup boot to safemode & disable floppy - I recommend turning virtual memory off too).

It takes ages to install, but does run OK.

Windows 98 technically requires an FPU but you can get it to run with the previous posters method.

Does 98 FE supposedly require FPU too? I can't remember now.

Yes, the minimum CPU requirement was a 486DX with 66 MHz.

DirectX 8 and up also began requiring that the PC had FPU. I have noticed games in general from that time often had the minimum requirement of a 486DX 66MHz. I figured that meant AO486 on the MiSTer would support most of these games, until I found out about 486DX having FPU. On top of this, it seems to be more comparable to a 33Mhz than a 66Mhz.

Still surprised how many games will run on AO486 as it is now. The few games that wont run, usually are ones that are able to run on modern systems now somehow I think.
