DE10 Nano Setup for Arcade Cores??

Unread post by teradee »

Hi all!

I am setting up a DE10 Nano with my son to put into an arcade cabinet. We have the SD card complete, but need to order a USB hub to connect our keyboard.

  • We have the DE10 Nano
  • We have the Micro usb hub
  • we have the Jpac to Jamma hardware

A few questions I am still unsure of....
  • 1. Do we need an I/O board to connect to an arcade monitor (G07)?
  • 2. Do we need an HDMI to CGA adapter....not VGA? (our monitor has CGA)
  • 3. Do we need an amplifier to get sound?
  • 4. Can we get the arcade cores in one shot? Or do we have to download them one at a time?

Thanks you very much!

1. and 2. you can use a IO board to connect the monitor or "direct video".
the choice is yours
direct video is probably a better options right now

3. amp and speakers. the IO board does optical spdif out as well as 3.5 stereo output of line level. so an amp is still required.
the direct video converters can be fairly average sound output, but good enough for most arcade games I'd say.
either way, you still need to amplify the line out signal

4. yes. scripts can be installed to update everything in one hit. when a new game/core is released you run the script and the game appears in the list :)

Hopefully it's OK to piggy-back on this thread since I'm doing the same thing.

I have everything working but I'm trying to add a volume knob (potentiometer) and I've tested 10k, 100k, and 500k but the volume is still too loud even at the lowest (highest) setting.

The only other setting I can change is on my amplifier which has an input sensitivity from 250mv to 4V. It seems like I need 4V to eliminate noise/hum from the audio.
