IPAC plus 2 joypads?

Hello :)

I have an arcade cab with a mini pac hooked up to arcade controls for players 1 and 2. It is set up as a keyboard and it automatically mapped the player 2 buttons according to the setup posted on these forums. Has anyone tried adding bluetooth or usb 8bitdo control pads for players 3 and 4? I'm struggling to get it to work and am wondering if it is possible.

Just to add a little more information about what happens when I try and set up a 4 player game. I start the Genesis core and Mega Bomberman or Gauntlet for example with the 4way adapter enabled. The IPAC is assigned to player 1 and player 2 as normal. When I try and add a third controller it gets assigned as player 2 again so both the second joystick on the IPAC and the bluetooth controller now are player 2. Finally, when I add a fourth controller it is assigned to player 3.
