I've been playing with arcade cores on my MS8 arcade monitor. I've tried a couple of HDMI dongles and a jpac and a JammASD.
I notice that the 15khz signal is usually 640 width, and for the most part it looks fine. However I do notice the horizontal scaling in certain situations. Especially on Capcom games where the the original resolution width of 384 is being converted to 640w.
These green windows in Street Fighter for example show a kind of moire / "screen door" effect, especially in motion.
Does anyone else using direct video notice the same thing or could I have something set up wrong?
15Khz Direct video over HDMI. Not-so-super resolution.

Are you using a custom video mode? Try setting it to 0

Hi Joel! Hope you're well.
You got me excited then as I had actually changed that setting for my first test on a TV. Set it back to 0 (1280x720), but it's had no effect on direct video. Still 640 width, still looks mostly great except that I can see slight artefacts on repeat patterns, vertical lines and scrolling.
I'm being quite fussy here.

You know what. I think it's just my monitor. Here's the same green vertical window blinds in Groovymame (2560 width super resolution):
Sorry. I had a new thing and I was just looking too closely.

Yep. Groovy (Super resolution) on the left, Mister (Direct Video) on the right. It's pretty much identical. I was being a dick. Carry on...

For the record... any kind of video mode should have zero effect on the HDMI output when direct video is on. Direct video more or less disables the scaler, and the scaler line in the HUD tends to report 640 wide but I find this is usually meaningless, which would make sense of the scaler is disabled. (the scaling filter option disappears entirely.) You can feed the HDMI into some digital devices and read the true resolution and its often wacky stuff like 2400+ wide

Ahh thanks for the clarification. I assumed direct video would nullify any other video settings, but that was just an assumption.
Good to hear that about the HUD report. 640 sounded strangely low for the purpose.
