MiSTer Daemonbite Arcade Adapter - How to Build & Setup for Arcade Sticks

Unread post by vgesoterica »

Hey all,

Someone over at the Discord channel said I should post this here. I've been doing an entire review / turorial series on MiSTer for fun because I just enjoy making them and I do love MiSTer lol

The Daemonbite adapter is legit awesome and so cheap for what it offers. I'd had some questions on previous videos about it so I figured I'd try my best at explaining how to get it build, flashed and running :)

Glad to be here!

ahh, very nice !

the instructions on mickgyver's github are easy enough for someone familiar with soldering/small projects
(https://github.com/MickGyver/DaemonBite-Arcade-Encoder), but this will be helpful for those just starting out !

imo, these daemonbite encoders are an absolute steal/bang for your buck for ~$10, when compared to the universal fighting board (UFB) ~$95,
and have basically the same input lag

----------------------------

i made a SNES adapter with a daemonbite encoder for my PC gaming,
but i do use a UFB for arcade cores, and SNAC for everything else on the mister.

but, i would 100% recommend someone build a daemonbite adapter if they are looking for a fightstick for their MiSTer
https://www.amazon.com/OSOYOO-ATmega32U ... B012FOV17O - 1 for $10
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HCXMBOU - 3 for $20

and the same low latency boards (ATmega32U4) can be used to make your own USB controllers out of original retro system controllers
(NES, SNES, genesis, PCengine, neogeo, saturn) https://github.com/MickGyver/DaemonBite ... ollers-USB

Two things to note when dealing with the cheap "Pro Micro ATmega32U4" boards is that the failure rate it a bit high, and the USB connector will break off very easily, so buy more than you need, if you need one, get two or three, and you might want to add some more solder to the metal tabs on sides of the USB connector that hold the USB connector to the "Pro Micro ATmega32U4" board, and I would make sure the USB cable is secure and can not move or put stress on the "Pro Micro ATmega32U4" board's USB connector.

ahh yes,
good catch

the above amazon links are for the updated versions of the ATmega32U4 with stronger solder points on the micro USB port

i dont see the USB breaking off being an issue unless you dont have an enclosure/quick connect in your arcade stick

but, just be sure to buy one of the updated versions, and like will said, get a couple just in case they do fail at some point.
