Uridium NTSC has hiccups

Hey guys,
Uridium running in PAL mode produces very choppy scrolling on my LCD TV. Obviously a timing problem.
Uridium running in NTSC mode luckily has nice smooth scrolling. So the timing generally seems to work in this mode.
However, strangely enough, whenever enemies appear on screen, the scrolling has hiccups. Looks like it is dropping frames or something.
This is inexplicable because supposedly the core should by cycle accurate and fixed frame rate, and no such effect happens on real hardware.
Any ideas? Is it a bug in the core?
