Script to sync save games and change extension?

I like having the option to swap my SD card with other systems and keep on gaming. My Analogue Super NT with an SD2SNES and/or my RG350 portable device. Both of these systems use .srm extensions for most save games. Also, the location of the save folders is different.
I realise it might also be possible to run a script when I have finished playing to copy saves to the location I want, and change the extension to .srm, and then run a script before I start playing to do the opposite. (Keep the folders in sync, basically). Maybe there is a way to monitor changes in the file and sync + change extension.
Anyone have any experience of this?
Maybe there is a simpler solution to this (symlinks, perhaps?) but so far not having luck finding one. Thanks
