Cannot update to latest release (20210831)

Hi everyone, I've never had a problem updating MiSTer in the past but for some reason I can't update to 20210831. I originally ran the update_all script and when that didn't work I downloaded
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/SD-Inst ... 0210829.7z, extracted the linux folder and manually overwrote the linux folder on my MiSTer SD card. That worked great so I tried running the update.sh script which seemed to work fine but when my MiSTer reboots it just shows the white static and nothing works. So I figured I'd try updating to 20210831 manually, but I'm getting the same problem - after updating it just boots to white static and nothing works. At this point I once again manually updated the linux folder on my MiSTer SD card and everything is back to normal again.
Any ideas or suggestions for how I can update to 20210831 are much appreciated!

The white static is a fancy effect. Does it react to the OSD button?

No it doesn't respond to anything, I tried pressing buttons on a few of my USB gamepads but didn't get a response. So then I tried the reset button on the MiSTer itself but still no response. Nothing worked until I rolled back to the older linux folder from

I bought a new micro SD card and everything is working like it should. I don't know why the other one won't update but this was a good excuse to upgrade to a higher capacity micro SD card
For some reason all my high scores in the arcade cores are gone. I tried copying over the config folder from the old micro SD card to the new micro SD card but still no luck. Any idea where those high scores are saved?

The highscores should be in /media/fat/config/nvram/ - it's possible for them to get detached if the name of the .mra file for the game changes (which did happen to a bunch of cores recently), but if you rename the .nvm to the same name as the .mra they should come back.
