Issue Running PAL or EU Roms

Unread post by OldeManMoon »

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help.

Been using Mister for about 3 months now. My issues stems from running Pal or EU (50hz) roms on my LCD display.
What happens is the screen goes black and stays black with no menu or image when switching to 50hz.
Namely when I've tried Snes, Megadrive or any of the console cores really.

I know it's not the TV as my Mega SG and Super NT are having no issues switching to PAL.

Is there a setting I'm missing or a switch that I should be using?

Thanks for your help..

On each of those cores, what have you got the video region set to? Got to ask though, although I’m from the UK (PAL land) for the consoles id stick to 60hz, the majority of games were designed to be played at that speed. Also you won’t have those nasty borders that we put up with for all of those years. It’s only the home micro’s I play at 50hz really.

You need to setup 'video_mode_pal' in MiSTer.ini to a PAL videomode. For example video_mode_pal=9 for 1080p50 or video_mode_pal=7 for 720p50.

That’s the thing. I have set the video pal mode in the ini to 1920 50hz.
Thing is I’m sure this used to work and does work in the Amiga core.

When I launch say a Rom in the mega drive core it doesn’t auto switch from the default 1920 60hz to 50hz.
Instead it just stays blank and I can’t access menu and must reset.
If I load the core and switch to EU in the menu before I load rom it does the same thing.

I know I should stay to 60hz Roms but there was a few exclusives in pal regions I do like.

Did you remove the ; in front of video_mode_pal? Otherwise try with a clean MiSTer.ini.

I’ll have a look at that but I’ve always set it via the ini settings script.

If the Amiga core is working properly at 50Hz then your TV might not like the refresh rate of the consoles at 50Hz. They don't output a perfect 50.0Hz.

You can try to set video_mode=9 and vsync_adjust=0. That will make the standard video output 1080p50 which should work. Of course this is not optimal because you will get some stuttering and lag.

That was it, thanks for that.
It’s the low lag setting.
That off it works fine
