Don't know if this as an issue, but Joe Montana Football runs slow. I must admit that I'm basing this on my previous experience with Retropie and other Genesis emulators from the past two decades. Gameplay and sound are better than ever. I'm running the World rom.

Make sure your system set for US/NTSC and not PAL.
Games often run slow in Pal, as they aren't correctly adjusted to the 50hz timing TVs used at the time.

I've also noticed that changing the CPU speed and sprite limit in the OSD settings can have the opposite effect in some games. You should keep them set to normal unless you run into a specific game that benefits from it.
