SUPER MIDI PAK - Possible support with hardware addons?

I am interested in the SUPER MIDI PAK as discussed here:
https://www.retrorgb.com/super-midi-pak ... rview.html
Obviously the MiSTer project doesn't have cart support, which would be needed to plug in a midi keyboard and cables. Still, with new MIDI devices being integrated to work with MiSTer, is it possible that a separate MIDI IO board might introduce to the MiSTer world the ability to tap into the [FPGA] sound chips of consoles and classic computers to do similar to what the SUPER MIDI PAK can do?
I'd love to tap into the SID, POKEY, and Sega music worlds thru Mister too. Basically making a MiSTer like the MiST as far as hardware MIDI ports.
...I do have a MiST with the MIDI in and out but haven't looked into the SNES core in a while. Are there any discussions within the MiSTer community that would allow a clever way to do such things without the cart?
EDITED - I wonder if this USB MIDI interface plus a rom of SUPER MIDI PAK would work?
