Coco3 Core Released

A great Xmas gift for fans of old microcomputers, especially the Tandy underdog ones. Thank you, @alanswx!
I'll give it a whirl after work (if the analog video works, that is). It's an alpha release, so let's test ride it and see what's what.

Can you give me a hint, where you found the 3 roms? Its analog video working? Thank you

aahh, what the heck. Here's your hint:
- CoCo3.7z
- (26.6 KiB) Downloaded 601 times
Please note; Cartridges work fine, cassettes load fine, but the extended disk color BASIC rom included (last version 1.4 from 1985), gives me trouble mounting .dsk files. Go to
TRS-80 Color Computer Archive, to test your luck with the plethora of dumps

Just had a quick looksee...15Khz analog video works fine, that's a big relief
Tried to load some stuff, but did not have much luck
-carts: tried a few but only a couple did work for me (Dragonfire & Tetris)
-tape: tried CLOAD on a couple of files but get either ?I/O or FM errors
-disk: no dice at all, I don't think it's "connected" because it doesn't display Disk BASIC, only the Extended one.
The core often hangs on the three-guys pic when trying to reboot.

Yeah my bad, you'll want this instead:
That's the
disk extended color BASIC (v 2.1)
Still, I cannot fathom how to load disk images; all 4 reported drives won't let me boot to any .dsk. Maybe there's a command we need to enter at the prompt

I was having a real hard time to have this core work. I downloaded many many different roms and even the roms posted above. Each time I get a green screen with a brown "cursor" on the upper left and randomly placed "black holes". I went back to the Wiki to see what I was doing wrong but could not find anything until I looked in the docs folder: The external 128MB ram board is required for functionality.
It would have been a really good idea to mention this in the readme and would have saved me a few hours of wasting my time.

Once you have your .dsk file selected type "DIR" to get a content listing of the disk.
Then type LOADM"GAMENAME" to load the game.
Depending on the game this might take a little while before you see the OK prompt again.
Then type EXEC to run said game.
LOADM"GAMENAME":EXEC will load and run..
For example Donkey Kong Remix. LOADM"DKREMIX":EXEC will load and run the game.
Note: Set Swap joysticks "On"

Yep, with that other boot1 disk is working ok. Here's also a Quick Reference Card for some more commands.

Does this core support UART serial? ala the C64/PC/Amiga cores?

What's the difference between this and Roger Taylor's "REALCOCO" core?

Having input problems despite swapping joysticks in the OSD, in Donkey Kong and Joust, only one button seems to respond.

I cannot clmb the ladders in DK remix under the Coco3 core. Left, Right, Jump are OK but the UP seems to do not working, Is this working on your side ?

Works for me. I tried with my m30 2.4g and my Sony Playstation joystick.
Maybe try remapping your controller. You might have to delete your coco3 config file.

This one is open source and based on Gary Beckers core. Roger Taylors core is closed source and I suppose ultimately irrelevant to the MiSTer FPGA project at this point.

Hi,
tried this core and quite a lot is working: tape files, ccc and disk. I was able to load programs from disk, even OS9 and Nitros9.
The only thing not really working is joystick support. Left, right and both fire-buttons work but up and down is completely ignored. I tried deleting the config file, and new button assign etc. with different joystick, but to no avail.
cheers

I think the fix to your controller issue is in this thread. Reconfigure your controller from the MiSTer Main menu.
Don't skip the "Stick X: Tilt Right" or "Stick Y: Tilt Down"

Gave this a go, it's still not working - cannot get my 360 wireless to work with COCO3.

This is the first computer core with shadow mask support, which is really cool.

This is a lot of fun to check out. It seems a rather advanced machine for it's time. I was still half way through my ZX Spectrum days when this was released.

Being closed source does not make it irrelevant - I am happy to support it, even if it goes against some idealisms.

Not quite the first, the x68000 had it a few weeks prior. Still cool though.

Ah, of course, I should have expected that. Still need to take some time to properly check that one out.

Closed source projects are pretty much Irrelevant to an open source project. It might be relevant to people who wish to use it, but it provides no noticeable benefit to the mister FPGA project itself.
