Video Capture Devices - Experience?

Unread post by kamshaft »

I've been wanting to do some MiSTer video captures.

Which devices are you guys using? How's the video quality? Thanks in advance for sharing.

I have an X-Capture 1, from the makers of the XRGB-Mini:

It works great and I do all my captures with it on my channel, e.g.:

Nice bonus: I discovered the capture card comes up as a regular video on Windows, so I can have streaming video calls where I connect my MiSTer instead of my webcam.

I'm using an old Elgato Game Capture HD (external) and I would *not* recommend it. It works sometimes, then it just doesn't for random periods, and it requires their proprietary software to decode the signal, which I think is still a thing on their newer units. Definitely looking for an affordable alternative that is compatible right now.

There's an article on retrorgb covering three different cards, which I will link here

https://www.retrorgb.com/capture-card-t ... ister.html

Since I don't have a 4K TV I don't care about that functionality, so of the three tested there the StarTech one seems most promising to me
