New MiSTer Help Function Not Working

Unread post by AmintaMister »

Hi all! I've tried yesterday the new "HELP" function with both Pdf and Md but on my Trinitron CRT hangs the MiSTer, maybe currently it works only on Hdmi?

You probably need "fbterminal = 1" set in your MiSTer.ini file?

Very odd! Do you get any errors when running the update script? It was working for me yesterday evening (although this was on HDMI). Are you using directvideo or analogue video via an IO board?

I think the problem is that I'm using the analogue video via an IO board, I got no errors on the update script..

I have an IO board too so I'll test that later on a few of my CRTs and report back.

Works fine on my CRT, pdf's too small to read like but they load okay.

The .md files work on my set via Direct Video, didn't try pdfs. Perhaps you should try @thorr's CRT setting for the Menu (see Custom Video Modes section)

CRT SCR$ Project - building a collection of high-quality photos of CRT displays
CRT ART Books - retro-gaming books with authentic CRT photos

I had FB Terminal and Direct Vid on and they worked. Turn them off and they don't obviously. Certainly the Terminal.

I've tried both with:

Code: Select all

[Menu]
vga_scaler=1
vsync_adjust=1
vscale_mode=1
video_mode=640,54,56,106,224,16,0,28,13764
and

Code: Select all

[Menu]
vga_scaler=1
vsync_adjust=1
vscale_mode=1
video_mode=640,54,56,106,224,16,0,28,13764
but on my Trinitron CRT Tv connected via Vga -> Scart via analogue board it doesn't work...

But I have the CRT connected via Vga Analogue Board, not via Hdmi...

The help feature uses the Framebuffer mode in linux. So you need to make sure you have framebuffer displayed on HDMI or somehow working on the CRT. I have two monitors hooked up, and it keeps the CoCo3 running on the VGA, while the PDF is on the HDMI.

Can confirm feature is working via analogue out on my IO board, SCART and YbpPr. Perhaps manually update MiSTer Main?

Ok, so do you confirm it can't work on CRT analogue only?

I haven't tried to get Framebuffer working on my vga - but if you can using the scaler over vga then it should work I think.

As long as you have "vga_scaler=1" it does work over VGA.

Perhaps there is some minimal resolution pdfviewer needs to run?

Hi guys, I'm trying out the new Help menu to open md files but I get an error that says: /media/fat/linux/glow: No such file or directory. Do you know if there is a way to install glow to have this working? I've ran update and update_all scripts already but I have the same results, also I've some filters enabled for update_all but I'm not sure it this is preventing to have glow installed in the linux folder. Thanks.

Strange, glow should be instaled with the PDF Viewer from here:
https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/PDFView ... r/releases

It should come down with update_all and downloader

Thank you, I've found that I was missing the "linux" filter, so I added it and update_all downloaded the linux commands that I was missing.

Same problem for me even after a complete reinstall.
Hopefully this information will help ;)

Additional: Unfortunately it hasn't. Not familiar with using Linux. Anyone able to assist?

Hi, I confirm that New MiSTer Help Function doesn't work on IO analog board, VGA to Scart RGB Output on analog CRT TV.

Was anyone able to get this working over the IO board? I tried vga_scaler=1 but I either get no image on my VGA monitor or a garbled display on my 32" Sony Wega CRT. Any suggestions or edits to the INI file are greatly appreciated!
