1440p in LG 32GK850G monitor

I have both a 32GK850G and 32GK850F monitors, which are essentially the same (or so I thought), the main difference being that the first is G-Sync compatible (also 165hz overclock) and the second is FreeSync (144hz HDR). Both have a 2560x1440 resolution.

To my surprise, my mister works with video_mode=12 (1920x1440@60) in the F monitor, but not in the G one, I get an "out of range" message. Any idea on why is that and any possible solution? Any custom mode I can try in the ini? video_mode=0 (720p) woorks just fine in both.

Many thanks for any help!

See this thread, it looks like g-sync monitors may actually be trouble w/Mister.

Yes, I saw that thread, however both my monitors work with 1080p, it's 1920x1440 (4:3 resolution) that only works in the F (with black borders when setting "aspect ratio: original") and not the G.

I made a search and found another user had the same trouble with the same monitor:

It's a bummer the mister works with this resolution in one of my monitors and not the other, I was hoping there would be some workaround with a custom configuration. The 1920x1440 resolution looks very nice and I will only play 4:3 content anyway.

Same problem with my Dell AW3423DW, my guess is manufacturers don't expect such a niche resolution and it's simply not recognized by the monitor, which is a unfortunate.

The only solution would be to pass the signal through a Retrotink 5x. I know, it's very expensive.

I thought the 5x was also stuck at 1920x1440? At least for scaling. Only the 720p line doubling mode supports 2560x1440.

Well in theory you can use a component cable @720p from the Mister and into the Retrotink 5x.... But I don't feel it's worth the price.

At that point you're probably just better off sending a 720p signal directly into the monitor which already works..

Exactly, that's what I have been doing and the results are very good, it's just that I have the G monitor in my Vewlix arcade cabinet and the F in my desktop. I had tried 1440p in the G and it didn't work, so I assumed it wouldn't in the F and never tried it, until yesterday and I was shocked it worked.

I'll just stick to 720p in the Vewlix, and 1440p in the desktop.

For reference, here's my mister at 720p in the Vewlix:

Speak of the devil, a new experimental 2560x1440 mode was just added to the Retrotink 5x Still not sure its worth the price but it's getting closer to having an actual advantage...
