Unread post by CartoonDonkey »

Just situmbled onto this project: https://hackaday.com/2022/05/26/color-v ... k-to-life/

It would be so cool if mister handled vector to rgb at 15khz for us crt users...

Nice! But I don't think "15kHz" and "vector graphics" are related. AFAIU you need a special monitor for vector graphics. You can't input X/Y info to a 15kHz monitor; these are designed to make horizontal sweeps at... well, 15kHz. You need a monitor with X/Y input, or an oscilloscope; look here: https://hackaday.com/2014/09/18/buildin ... ontroller/

It would still be nice if certain MiSTer cores like Asteroids or Vectrex could output to an X/Y monitor, though.

In this thread viewtopic.php?t=4691 there's a fella making replacement electronics for CRTs with modern components. I wonder if it would be possible to implement X/Y control of the tube gun.

But you'd still need an X/Y source though.

You need more than just electronics, the yoke is wound different on a vector monitor.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'd have assumed the gun would have x and y controls that the electronics converted to scanlines and dots per line.
