Like the subject says, I'm not asking where to download or where to locate games/roms/etc.
Just curious to ask if there is a preferred romset/romdump that has been identified as working best with the PSX core?

Try the "no intro" sets or "redumps"

I run the 1G1R romset.
1G1R stands for “One Game One ROM”.
If you use the google you will probably find some archive site that may have that

I use redump set. With retool (get it from github) set to make it '1 game 1 region'.
search on google for startgame world
but yes, if you have a bad dump of the game, it could have missing sound or something else.

like Grizzly, i'm using the 1G1R set, sans the games i will never play anyway, converted them all to CHD and up till now haven't run into any issues.
though there's so many, it could take some time untill a potential issue can show up.

Did you have to convert it to CHD in order for it to work with the PSX core?
What tool did you use to convert?
Thanks

The set was in BIN/CUE format so i had to convert it myself.
There's a batch script available here on the forum i believe, for my own use i've written a frontend for CHDMAN (the utility needed for conversion) to convert cd images to CHD format.
People can use it if they want to
CHD UI page and
CHDUI Compiled
Hopefully it's of use to some.

Thanks for the info/links, I appreciate it.
Forgive my ignorance but does the PSX core not support BIN/CUE format? I thought it did?
Is there a reason that you converted to CHD?

The core definitely supports bin/cue, CHD is just much much *much* smaller/more efficient.

Ok, that makes sense why one would go through the effort of converting to CDH.
Thanks all for explaining the PSX rom requirements to me

+1 on Chadmaster. I use his CHD sets for all MiSTer cores that support CD's and they always work great!

Yes, there also sets for Mega CD or Saturn or PC Engine CD.
