Does SDRAM Speed Matter?

Unread post by thisisamigaspeaking »

My module is running at 150 MHz in the automatic memory test. How long should I leave it running (it's at FF on the counter right now)?

Does this offer any benefit over a module that would only run at 130 MHz? What's the minimum speed that will work? Couldn't find a ready answer with Google. Thanks.

As long as you're over 130, you're good, at least with any existing cores.

My RAM runs at 147MHz for long periods, so it's not quite as good as yours, but it's been fine.

If you can run it for 8 or 10 hours, that's enough to prove it's solid at whatever speed the memory tester says is good.

Not really.

Every core has a different specific MHz speed requirement. Higher clock speed does not mean it is any better, the memory actually needs to run reliably at many different fixed MHz values depending upon the specific core being used.

The current highest MHz requirement is the Acorn Archimedes computer core at 126 MHz and the lowest MHz is 35 MHz for the Gamate core.
