Proper Wiring for SCART Cable on MiSTer

Unread post by CMR »

Does anyone know what the best wiring method would be for a scart cable using the I/O board? I thought ypbpr was a little dim on my set so I thought I would give getting it through rgb and a converter a try. I already had a Shinybow converter and ordered a scart cable from misteraddons.com, but the image I get has a little bit of a green tint especially on gray colors.

I know the shinybow is a good converter, I've used it with sega genesis scart cables from another vendor before and it worked perfectly. When I took apart the scart cable I thought it had some strange wiring decisions like vsync used for the blanking signal. I haven't contacted misteraddons.com. I figured they would just tell me the shinybow isn't compatible or something.

Also, can anyone tell me if the mister I/O board puts out a voltage on pin 9 of the vga port?

Check this thread: https://www.misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=1496

Generally speaking, it's not an exact science and YMMV. So, the fact that Shinybow works with Genesis doesn't necessarily mean it will with MiSTer - i think these FPGAs (like ZX Uno) output slightly different signal/voltage, hence the need for resistor. It can also cause the dimness/colours/sync problems, but that can also vary by te CRT set. Eg Trinitrons: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_Mi ... itron-sets

Thank you for the info and links. That at least explains why the scart cable is wired the way it is. I've got a retrotink converter coming that I'm going to try, and then I'll just give up. I spend way too much money on this stuff.

Why not just get the mister scart cable from rcs, job done?

I got the retrotink in today, and it's good. The green tint is gone and the colors are noticeably brighter than ypbpr directly from the I/O board. I guess the Shinybow wasn't the five star converter I thought it was. Also, I said the misteraddon cables had funky looking wiring. I was wrong, they're fine. I'm using them with the retrotink and they work perfectly.
